A Typical 1 to 1 training session with Antonio

Antonio plans his training sessions based around the child’s ability level and specific to their age, technical and tactical skills and role on the pitch. Sessions start with focus on the child’s technique, with the aim to develop and insert it into actual game situations. Each session is structured in phases with specific objectives: 1: Ball mastery and individual technique; 2: Individual technique and tactics applied to communication with other players: 3: Technical feints and body feints; 4: Development of skills trained within 1v1.

Ball mastery & individual technique

Ball mastery is the ability to manipulate and control the ball with both feet using a variety of techniques relevant to football. This stage is such an important component to helping players develop the fundamentals and when coached correctly will help players enjoy the game more.

Technical feints and body feints

As the ball mastery element develops technical and body feints are introduced into the training. Beating an opponent 1 v 1 is an important part of the game and having the ability to manipulate the ball with the feet or dropping a shoulder, feigning to move in one direction but actually moving off in another direction will allow a player to become more comfortable in possession of the ball.

Development of skills trained within 1v1

Having guided a player through the technical and tactical elements, applying actual game 1 v 1 scenarios is a progressive step to making a young footballer more confident on the pitch. The aim with all training sessions is to develop a player comfortable with the ball at their feet, using creativity and awareness to work out solutions on the pitch.
